Course overview

A practical fire fighting programme combining classroom theory with live-fire drills on our training ground. Learners build the confidence to identify fire risks, raise the alarm and safely attack a fire in the early stages.

  1. 1Fire chemistry, the fire triangle and stages of fire growth
  2. 2Classes of fire and matching the correct extinguishing media
  3. 3Portable extinguishers, hose reels and fire blankets
  4. 4Hose handling, branch techniques and water supply basics
  5. 5Personal protective equipment and safe approach procedures
  6. 6Live-fire practical drills and post-fire reporting

Learning outcomes

  • Identify fire hazards and classify fires correctly
  • Select and safely operate the correct fire fighting equipment
  • Apply safe attack, retreat and communication procedures
  • Support workplace emergency and evacuation plans

Entry requirements

  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • Certified copy of ID or passport
  • Medically and physically fit for practical fire drills
  • Communication in English at NQF Level 1

CertificationCertificate of competence issued by Vhutshilo Fire Academy approximately two weeks after successful assessment.
