Awareness-level training for anyone who may be first on scene at a hazardous materials incident. The emphasis is on recognition, isolation and calling for the right help — not intervention.

  2. 2Recognising and identifying hazardous materials (placards, NFPA 704, SDS)
  3. 3Chemical properties, exposure routes and health effects
  4. 4Protective clothing selection and safe donning/doffing
  5. 5Containment, control and product transfer techniques
  6. 6Decontamination corridors and termination procedures

  • Recognise a hazardous materials incident and isolate the scene
  • Interpret placards, labels and safety data sheets
  • Operate safely within the incident command structure
  • Perform defensive control actions and decontamination

Entry requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Certified copy of ID or passport
  • Medical fitness certificate for respiratory protection
  • Basic fire fighting background recommended
